| [Ⅶ]Themes for tanka composition(5) (Intermediate courseⅡ) (12) Tanka in December（2004）平成16年(1/10-2/8). “The snow which falls on the mountain” In this chapter, I will try to discuss how tanka should be composed in Shiwasu (December) (*1/10-2/8). In Shiwasu, the ponds and streams begin freezing while the air gets so dry that the moon can be seen clearly, shining high in the sky. Furthermore, all the ground becomes covered with snow. In the previous, primer course, I suggested you compose tanka on the themes, "Water begins freezing into ice", "Ice on a stream" and "The snow covering the ground where the bamboos stand". In this intermediate course, I hope you can compose tanka on the following themes which are more specific and complicated than the previous, primer course theme, "The snow": a quite familiar theme,"The snow which falls on the garden", "The snow which falls on the mountain" and "The snow which falls on the village". This time, second of all, I hope you can compose on the theme, “The snow which falls on the mountain”. Here, I will show you the following tanka, which are composed by Fujiwara no Shunzei (1113-1204), monk Enshin (?-?), Minamoto no Toshiyori (1054?-1129) and myself on this theme, "The snow which falls on the mountain". There are many tanka about snow in both the Kokin-shu and the Shinkokin-shu, which I mentioned before. One of the most famous tanka, which are are composed on this theme, "The snow which falls on the mountain" is the following tanka by Yamabe no Akahito (?-759-?): When I look upward/ standing beside Tago Bay,/ the snow are falling/on the peak of Mt. Fuji,/ which is all dyed perfect white. by Yamabe no Akahito(4) We Japanese have thought that the snow is one of the most beautiful things in the views in winter, as the author of the essay, "Makurano-soshi", Seisho-Nagon (?-1000-?) mentions in her essay, "In winter I can feel best early in the morning, to say nothing of it when the snow has fallen." So, a poet, Sakanoue no Korenori (?-924-?) composed tanka on the theme, "The snow ": When I look around/ all of Yoshino village/ just around daybreak,/the snow falls upon the field/ as if the moonlight glittered. by Sakanoue no Korenori(31) *(2005.12/31-06.1/28) 雪降れは峰の真榊埋もれて月に磨ける天の香具山 Mt. Kagu, on whose/ peak masakaki-plants stand, is all completely/ covered with the snow, it seems to glitter through the moonlight. by Fujiwara no Shunzei 葛城の高間の山やこれならむ雲より上に見ゆる白雪 Nothing can be more/ brilliant than Mt. Takama in Kazuragi:/ the white snowfall can be seen upon its peak bearing clouds. by monk Enshin 降る雪に谷の掛け橋埋もれて梢そ冬の山路なりける As the bridge crossing/ the vale is also covered with the white snowfall,/ only the treetops remain to mark the winter route. Minamoto no Toshiyori 冬暮るゝ駿河の野辺に佇めは雪に埋もるや富士の白嶺 When I look upward/ over the Suruga plain on a winter day,/ the white peak of Mt. Fuji covered with snow can be seen. by Mutsuo Shukuya |
第七章（～歌の主題 5～）[中級講座Ⅱ] 第12節：師走の歌「山雪」（やまのゆき） 今回は師走の歌を詠んで戴く。師走といえば、まず澤に氷が張り始め、空気も乾燥し、夜空には冴えわたる月が見られる。雪も積もって大地を埋め尽くす。 初級講座では「氷結始」「河氷」「竹雪深」を詠んで戴いたが、中級講座では、雪を中心にして、より制限された雪を詠んで戴く。まず、昨年は最も身近にな「庭雪」を詠んで戴いたが、今年は「山雪」を詠んで戴く。「山雪」を歌題に藤原俊成、宴信、源俊頼と私の歌を例歌としてみた。 前述の如く、古今和歌集、新古今和歌集ともに雪を詠んだ歌が多い。山に降った雪を詠んだ歌として有名な歌は、百人一首にも出てくる004山部赤人の歌である。赤人は「田子の浦に出て見ると、真っ白な富士の高嶺に、雪が降り続いているよ」という意味の004「田子の浦にうち出てて見れは白妙の富士の高嶺に雪は降りつつ」という歌を詠んでいる。 清少納言は著書「枕草子」の中で、「冬は早朝が良く、雪の降った朝はいうまでもない」と述べている如く、冬の景色の中で一番美しいものとしている。百人一首にも出てくる031坂上是則の歌に、「夜がほのぼのと明け始める頃に見渡すと、有明の月がほんのりと照っているかのように、吉野の里に雪が降り積っている」という意味の031「朝ほらけ有明の月と見るまてに吉野の里に降れる白雪」という歌が有名である。 俊成の歌は新古今和歌集の中に出てくる歌で、「雪が降ったので、峰の榊が雪に埋まって、全山が月の光で磨いて輝いているように見える天の香具山よ」という意味で、山が雪で覆われることによって一変してしまったという感動を詠み上げている。 宴信の歌は「葛城の高間山は櫻の名所であるが、雲が掛ってはいるが、その上から見える白雪が積もった景色も、これ以上のものは無いと思われるほど美しい」という意味の歌である。 源俊頼の歌は「道が分からなくなるまでに雪が沢山降って、谷の掛け橋が埋もれてしまったが、木の梢だけは見えるので、冬山を行く為の道標になっている」という意味の歌で、如何に雪が沢山降ったかを詠んでいる。 私の歌は「冬も押し迫った駿河の野辺に佇んで眺めると、富士山の嶺が降った雪で埋もれてしまったのであろう。真っ白に見える」という意味の歌である。 Plaza-Plaza Tanka Cornerプラザ歌壇入選者 ①林田幸子②上田文③勝岡房江④宿谷政枝 ①夜もすから雪のふりけむ今朝見れは有馬の富士の峰は真白き The snow must have been/ falling through the cold last night: when I look upward/ the peak of Mt.
