| [IV]Themes for tanka composition(2)(Junior courseⅡ) (11) Tanka November（2001）平成13年(12/15-1/12) “The buried embers” In this chapter, I will try to discuss how tanka should be composed in Shimotsuki[November](12/15-1/12). The most suitable theme on which to compose tanka this month is "Hatsuyuki" or ‘The first snowfall'. It becomes colder and colder day by day in Shimotsuki although it is said that buds of wheat would come out even through the snow after the winter solstice. So, we like to go to bed early or sit still long by the fireside thinking of various things. The theme, “The buried embers” can be one of suitable themes of this month. "The buried embers"are literally embers which are buried in the ashes of a fireplace or a brazier in order to save fire as kindling. In a room where embers are buried in the ashes of a fireplace or a brazier, it stays so warm all the time. When the breeze blows into the room, embers which are not buried deep sometimes shine brightly. A poetess, Echizen(?-1200-?) composed the following tanka in order to describe such a situation as I mentioned above: The buried embers/ have burned clearly as a flame when a mountain wind/ blows here from the crevice of a board door or the wall. Another poetess, Sagami(?-?) composed the following tanka on this theme in order to express her secret love: How can I show my/ feelings and still gaurd my heart, like the embers which/ are buried deep in ashes in the midnight in winter. Here, I hope you can compose tanka on the theme, "The buried embers". So, let me show you more tanka, which are composed by Morotoki Minamoto(1076-1136), Shunzei Fujiwara(1113-1204), Monk Soi(?-1086-?) and myself on this theme. It is very hard to stand the severe cold weather in winter as well as the severe hot weather in summer. But as a traditional poetry custom, poets have never composed tanka to complain of their pain or hardship but to express the pleasure which they experience even in this hard situation. 第四章（～歌の主題 2～）[初級講座Ⅱ] 第11節：霜月の歌「埋火」（うずみび） 今回は霜月の歌を詠んで戴く。霜月といえば、木々の葉がすっかり落ちて寒さが身にこたえる季節である。そして雪が降ってくるのを待つ季節である。そこで「初雪」が欠かせない歌題ある。冬至を迎える季節であるので、冬至を境にして日の長さが延び始めてくる。そこで麦は雪の下から芽を出し始める。しかし、寒さは日々厳しくなり、衾や火が恋しくなる。そこで、「埋火」も欠かせない歌題の一つである。「埋火」は炉や火鉢の火種を絶やさないようにするために、灰に埋められた赤く燃えた木炭のことである。この埋火のおかげで部屋はぽっかり暖かくなる。薄く盛られた灰の下の埋火に風が吹き込むことがあれば、その埋火は赤く輝く。その様子を女流歌人の越前が「板間より袖に知らるゝ山おろしにあらはれわたる埋火の影」と詠んでいる。また、相模の「灰にのみくたく心を如何にせむかきあらわさぬ夜半の埋火」という歌のように、言い表せない恋の想いを埋火に託して詠むこともしばしばある。 今回はその「埋火」を詠んで戴く。「埋火」を歌題に、源師時、藤原俊成、素意法師と私の歌を例歌としてみた。 夏の暑さに対して、冬の寒さは凌ぎがたいものがあるが、歌の世界ではその辛さ苦しさを詠むものではなく、その寒さの季節にも経験できる喜びを詠むことが主眼である。 師時の歌のように、「埋火が灯っている宿は、ただ鶯が鳴かないだけで、すっかり春になったようだ」とただただその喜びを詠んでいる。 俊成の歌は「埋火の傍で転寝をしてしまって、夢の中で櫻が咲いたのを見てしまった」と詠んでいる。 さらに、素意法師の歌は「あまりの暖かさに窓の外に降っている雪が櫻の花が散っているのと見間違えてしまった」と詠んでいる。 私の歌はまだ囲炉裏に火を起していた時代の幼き頃の思い出を詠んだものである。山から薪を取ってきたり、薪を斧で切ったことが思い出される。右のひとさし指の傷跡はその時に怪我をした印になっている。皆様にも「埋火」の暖かさを春の喜びの現象に例えたり、思い出に更ける様子を歌に詠んで見て戴く。 Plaza-Plaza Tanka Corner プラザ歌壇入選者 ①小林和歌子②関弘子③高山薫④山本綾子 ①故郷の野辺月影冴冴えて袖知る風に燃ゆる埋火 Clearer and clearer/ the moon shines around the field of my native town,/ while the buried embers glow in the cold, cold wintry wind. by Wakako Kobayashi ②遠方の野辺に鐘の音響く夜半夢路誘なふ埋火の影 In the midnight when/ the bell sounds so solemnly over distant fields,/ the buried embers tempt me to take a long, dream-filled nap. by Hiroko Seki ③木枯の吹き荒ふ夜は寝もやらて埋火のもと春を夢見む A cold wintry wind/ keeps me from sleeping tonight so quietly that/ I sit up late in a dream around the buried embers. by Kaoru Takayama ④朝またきひとり寝覚めし山庵の弱りもぞする埋火の影 This early morning/ I wake up in a cottage in the deep mountains/ to find the buried embers almost ready to vanish. by Ayako Yamamoto |
