| [3] Themes for tanka composition(1) (Junior course I) (11) Tanka in November（2000）平成12年(11/26-12/25) “The first snowfall” This time, I would like to introduce you to another technique, “Tsuiku”or ‘antithesis’to give composition to give your readers a comfortable rhythm and sense of music about after they read your tanka, as is often used in the Western poetic world. When you compose your tanka using this technique, you can make your readers understand its meaning clearly, so they can read it easily. Here, I will show you two tanka composed using this technique. Both of them appear in the tanka collection, “Hyakunin-Isshu”or ‘100 tanka composed by 100 poets.’ One is by Yoshinobu Oonakatomi(921-991), The other is by Ise no Taifu(?-1000-?), granddaughter of Yoshinobu Oonakatomi. In the following two tanka, there are five kinds of “Tsuiku”or ‘antithesis’; night and day, burnes and dies, once and today, old and new & Nara and new palace.(despite translating into English completely) I actually/ am overwhelmed with deep grief as if a fire burned/ all night at the palace gate and died out during the daytime. by Yoshinobu Oonakatomi(49) (Mi ka ki mo ri/ e ji no ta ku hi no/ yo ru wa mo e te hi ru wa ki e tsu tsu/ mo no wo ko so o mo e) How pretty they are!:/ the double cherry blossoms which come from Nara, /the capital, are now in full bloom at the new palace. by Ise no Taifu(61) (I ni shi he no/ Na ra no mi ya ko no/ ya he za ku ra ke fu ko ko no he ni/ ni ho hi nu ru ka na) In Shimotsuki[November](11/26-12/25), the most suitable theme on which to compose tanka is “Hatsuyuki” or ‘The first snowfall’. It becomes colder and colder day by day in Shimotsuki although it is said that buds of wheat comes out even through the snow after the winter solstice. Thus, we feel like going to bed early or sitting still long by the fireside thinking of various things. Here, I will show you the following tanka, which are composed by the monk, Jien(1155-1225), Tsurayuki Kino(?-945), Princess Shokushia(?-1201) and myself on the theme, “The first snowfall.” 紅葉葉のまた落ち果てぬ梢にも今朝初雪の花を見るかな Like cherry blossoms/ I have found the first snowfall early this morning/ upon the red leaves clinging to the top twigs of a tree. by Monk Jien 雪降れは冬篭りせる草も木も春に知られぬ花そ咲きける Although the first snows/ have just fallen upon both trees and grasses,/ they look like cherry blossoms such as never bloom in spring. by Tsurayuki Kino さむしろの夜半の衣手さえさえて初雪白し岡の辺の松 I woke up to find/ my sleeves got cold awfully. Branches of pine trees/ planted along the foot of a hill were covered with snow. by Princess Shokushi 寒空にひらひらと舞ふ初雪は緑も深き松に積もれり The first snows, which fell/ fluttering like white petals from so cold a sky,/ are gradually lying upon a deep green pine tree. by Mutsuo Shukuya |
第三章（～歌の主題 1～）[初級講座I] 第11節：霜月の歌「初雪」（はつゆき）「対句」 今回は歌の韻律に関わる「対句」という修辞法を紹介する。意義の相対する語句を並べて、音調を快いものにするだけでなく、意味を明瞭にしたり、歌の暗誦を容易にさせる効果がある。西洋の詩歌でも頻繁に用いられる修辞法である。 この修辞法を用いた短歌を百人一首の中から二首紹介する。一つは049大中臣能宣の「みかきもり衛士の焚く火の夜は燃え昼は消えつゝ物をこそ思へ」という歌である。この歌は「宮中の御門を警護する衛士の焚く火のように、夜は燃え上り、昼は心も消えるばかりに悩んでいる」という恋の苦しみを詠んだ歌であるが、この中で2つの「対句」が用いられている。つまり、「夜」と「昼」、「燃え」と「消え」である。 もう一つは、前回「掛詞」でも紹介した061伊勢大輔（大中臣能宣の孫）の「古の奈良の都の八重桜けふ九重に匂ひぬるかな」という歌である。この歌の中で、3つの「対句」が用いられている。つまり、「古」と「けふ(今)」、「八重」と「九重」、「奈良」と「けふ(京)」である。 今回は霜月の歌を詠んで戴く。霜月というば、木々の葉がすっかり落ちて寒さが身に堪える季節である。そして雪が降ってくるのを待つ季節である。そこで、「初雪」が欠かせない歌題である。冬至を迎える月であるので、冬至を堺にして昼の長さが伸びはじめてくる。そこで麦は雪の下からでも芽を出すということさえある。しかし、寒さは日々厳しくなり、衾や火が恋しくなる。そこで、「埋火」「寒夜衾」「炉辺忘冬」「閑居思友」等が歌に詠む材料となる。越冬の為に水鳥が池や川に見られる。そこで、歌題に「浦千鳥」「芦間鴛」「池鴨」がある。他に「冬月」「寒月」がある。冬の月は冴え渡る月を詠むことになっている。 今回は「初雪」を歌題に慈円、紀貫之、式子内親王と私の歌を例歌としてみた。 慈円の歌は「紅葉葉がまだ落ち果てない内に、その梢にも、今朝は初雪が降って、櫻の花が咲いたかのように見えた」という意味の歌である。紀貫之の歌は「雪が降ると、冬篭りしてしまった草も木も、春にならなければ見られない櫻の花が咲いたようだ」という意味の歌である。式子内親王の歌は「寒い夜中に薄着で起きて外を見ると、初雪が降って岡の辺の松を白く染めていた」という意味の歌である。私の歌は「初雪が寒い空を櫻の花弁のようにひらひらと舞ふ降りて、緑も深い松の枝に積もった」という意味の歌である。 Plaza-Plaza Tanka Cornerプラザ歌壇入選者 ①小林和歌子②関弘子③高山薫④アイリーン・ケルマン ①窓越しにいとゝ冷え入る相模原空見上くれは降れる初雪 Beyond the window/ in Sagamihara, where it becomes colder/ and colder, the snow falling can be seen when I look up. by Wakako Kobayashi ②寒々し朝目覚むれは浅間山峰に真白な初雪の降る When I look up at/ the peak of Mt.
